The Ranger Medic Handbook covers: Trauma Assessment Airway Management Hemorrhage Management Thoracic Trauma Management Hypovolemic Shock Management Head Injuries Seizures Spinal Cord Injuries Orthopedic Trauma Burns Hyperthermia Heat Injuries Routine Medical Problems Often Seen Equipment Lists and Much More. The Ranger Medic Code 1. I will always remember that these are the finest Infantry on this earth, and that as such they deserve the finest health care. 2. No Ranger or Ranger dependent who comes to me for health care will ever be turned away without their needs being addressed, even if their paperwork/administrative requirements are not in order. 3. I will never let slip my mind the fact that in chaos of battle, I am all that stands between that bleeding, wounded Ranger and the finality of death. I will perform my job with such skill that the grim reaper will walk away empty-handed. 4. I will always remember that I must not only treat wounded Rangers, I must also carry them sometimes. I will maintain the physical conditioning necessary to accomplish this. 5. I will always remember that uniforms, weapons and supplies can all be DX'd but that each Ranger only comes with one body. I will never jeopardize the safety and/or recovery of that body by performing medical tasks beyond my skill and training. 6. I will always be cognizant of the fact that people do not suddenly get well after 1700 hours and on weekends, and that as such, I will willingly provide or coordinate for health care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 7. I will never do anything stupid because they or regulations require it to be so. I will find a way to accomplish my mission and serve the Rangers of this Regiment. 8. I will always remember that everything I use is paid for by US citizens. I will remember those tax dollars are collected from the American people and given to the Rangers because those people believe that in exchange for that money they will be kept safe from the tyrants of the world. 9. I will never forget that this is an Infantry unit supported by a medical team; not a medical team supported by a plethora of Infantry. 10. I will never forget that when the tyrants of the earth look towards the USA and plot mischief, they see a wall of cold steel backed up by determined men wearing Tan Berets; and then they plot their mischief somewhere else. The extent to which I support that wall is the extent to which I have a right to consume oxygen. BUY YOUR COPY TODAY! |

ranger medic handbook: SAS Tracking Handbook Barry Davies, 2014-08-05 Tracking originated with man’s need for food; he needed to understand what he was following and what the rewards would be if he was successful. Little has changed over time about the terms of tracking. We still track game for sport and food, but we have also found other uses for tracking. Border police patrol to stop illegal immigrants from entering their country; the military tracks down wanted terrorists or enemy forces. Tracking has become a military skill. In the SAS Tracking Handbook, former SAS soldier and British Empire Medal (BEM) award–winner Barry Davies teaches not only how to survive in the outdoors with the skills of tracking, but how to use these skills from a military standpoint. Included in this book are many helpful tips on topics including: The types of dogs used for tracking. Traps for catching wild animals. Modern military tracking. Using your surroundings to your advantage. And much more. The success or failure of the modern tracker is dependent on the personal skills of the individual tracker. Training is vital in learning tracking skills, and continuous exercise the best way to interpret signs. These skills are rarely found, but they remain hidden deep within all of us. So whether you’re already a skilled tracker or a novice in the field, the SAS Tracking Handbook will be your guide to mastering this old and respected art. |

ranger medic handbook: The 71F Advantage National Defense University Press, 2010-09 Includes a foreword by Major General David A. Rubenstein. From the editor: 71F, or 71 Foxtrot, is the AOC (area of concentration) code assigned by the U.S. Army to the specialty of Research Psychology. Qualifying as an Army research psychologist requires, first of all, a Ph.D. from a research (not clinical) intensive graduate psychology program. Due to their advanced education, research psychologists receive a direct commission as Army officers in the Medical Service Corps at the rank of captain. In terms of numbers, the 71F AOC is a small one, with only 25 to 30 officers serving in any given year. However, the 71F impact is much bigger than this small cadre suggests. Army research psychologists apply their extensive training and expertise in the science of psychology and social behavior toward understanding, preserving, and enhancing the health, well being, morale, and performance of Soldiers and military families. As is clear throughout the pages of this book, they do this in many ways and in many areas, but always with a scientific approach. This is the 71F advantage: applying the science of psychology to understand the human dimension, and developing programs, policies, and products to benefit the person in military operations. This book grew out of the April 2008 biennial conference of U.S. Army Research Psychologists, held in Bethesda, Maryland. This meeting was to be my last as Consultant to the Surgeon General for Research Psychology, and I thought it would be a good idea to publish proceedings, which had not been done before. As Consultant, I'd often wished for such a document to help explain to people what it is that Army Research Psychologists do for a living. In addition to our core group of 71Fs, at the Bethesda 2008 meeting we had several brand-new members, and a number of distinguished retirees, the grey-beards of the 71F clan. Together with longtime 71F colleagues Ross Pastel and Mark Vaitkus, I also saw an unusual opportunity to capture some of the history of the Army Research Psychology specialty while providing a representative sample of current 71F research and activities. It seemed to us especially important to do this at a time when the operational demands on the Army and the total force were reaching unprecedented levels, with no sign of easing, and with the Army in turn relying more heavily on research psychology to inform its programs for protecting the health, well being, and performance of Soldiers and their families. |

ranger medic handbook: Tactical Combat Casualty Care and Wound Treatment U.S. Department of Defense, 2020-05-02 This is the official manual from the U.S. military is a subcourse book used to train combat medics. Combat medics on today's battlefield experience a wide variety of conditions not previously experienced. The training on the standards that apply to the civilian emergency medical service (EMS) world may not apply to the combat environment. The U.S. Army found the need to migrate away from the civilian standards and allow the combat medics to analyze situations in ways not previously thought of. These techniques are called combat casualty care. Factors influencing combat casualty care include the following: Enemy Fire Medical Equipment Limitations A Widely Variable Evacuation Time Tactical Considerations Casualty Transportation When you have casualties on the battlefield, you must determine the sequence in which the casualties are to be treated and how to treat their injuries. This subscourse discusses the procedures for performing tactical combat casualty care; treating injuries to the extremities, chest, abdominal, and head; and controlling shock. This subcourse consists of eight lessons: Tactical Combat Casualty Care Controlling Bleeding from an Extremity Treating Chest Injuries Treating Abdominal Injuries Treating Head Injuries Treating Burns Treating Hypovolemic Shock Treating Soft Tissue Injuries Tactical Combat Casualty Care and Wound Treatment is a highly regarded and up-to-date manual offered by the Department of Defense. It is available to combat medics and civilians who want to learn the critical medical treatments to be administered in adverse conditions. |

Composed of 10 lessons, The TECC Course Manual will: Cover the phases of care in a civilian tactical environment, Describe step-by-step the life-saving skills that may be performed in a civilian tactical environment, Provide safety and survival strategies for EMS providers and their patients In addition to the TECC Course Manual, instructors may also purchase the TECC Online Instructors Toolkit (9781284483888). This resource features 10 lesson presentations in PPT, as well as interactive patient simulations and skill stations that allow students to gain experience in a safe environment monitored by experienced EMS providers. |
ranger medic handbook: Tactical Medicine Essentials American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP),, E. John Wipfler III, John E. Campbell, Lawrence E. Heiskell, 2010-10-20 Medical support for special weapons and tactics (SWAT) units is different from civilian EMS in many ways. A tactical medical provider (TMP) is charged with providing life-saving care to downed SWAT officers and taking measures to defend against criminal suspects. Mastery of these skills requires extensive, specialized tactical emergency medical services (TEMS) training and experience in the tactical environment. Designed for EMS and medical professionals of all levels of training, Tactical Medicine Essentials provides the foundation needed to create world-class TMPs. Written by an experienced team of authors from diverse backgrounds, this text covers the essential curriculum of tactical medicine, including tactical patient assessment, expedient extrication and evacuation, and self-defense skills. ranger medic handbook: Eyes Behind the Lines: US Army Long-Range Reconnaissance and Surveillance Units James F. Gebhardt, 2005 Eyes Behind the Lines: US Army Long-Range Reconnaissance and Surveillance Units is the 10th study in the Combat Studies Institute (CSI) Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) Occasional Paper series. This work is an outgrowth of concerns identified by the authors of On Point: The United States Army in Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Specifically, these authors called into question the use of long-range surveillance (LRS) assets by commanders during that campaign and suggested an assessment ought to be made about their continuing utility and means of employment. This revision contains some important additional information the author received after this book was originally published Major (Retired) James Gebhardt, of CSI, researched and wrote this Occasional Paper with that end in view. In this study, Gebhardt surveys the US Army s historical experience with LRRP and LRS units from the 1960s Cold War and Vietnam War, through their resurgence in the 1980s and use in Operations JUST CAUSE and DESERT STORM, to the advent of the GWOT. The paper's analytical framework examines each era of LRS units in terms of doctrine, organization, training, materiel, leadership, and personnel. In doing so, the author makes a strong case for continuing the LRS capability in the Army s force structure. The variety of environments and enemies likely to be faced by the military in the GWOT continues to demand the unique human intelligence abilities of trained and organized LRS units. As the Army leads the Armed Forces of the United States in combating terrorists where they live, the lessons found in this survey remain timely and relevant. |
ranger medic handbook: Combat Medicine Operations Manual Penny Starns, 2019-11-12 Since the discovery and widespread use of penicillin in the Second World War, which was a major turning point in 20th century combat medicine, there have been enormous changes in surgical and nursing techniques enabling frontline medical teams to save soldiers’ lives and alleviate suffering on the battlefield. The Korean War saw the first use of helicopters to airlift wounded troops to medical facilities away from the front line, while the Falklands War, both Gulf Wars and the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan have been characterised by the introduction of new surgical procedures using image intensifiers and a trend towards laser treatments. Dr Penny Starns gives a detailed and insightful account of battlefield medicine from Korea to Afghanistan. |
