  process technology equipment and systems: Process Technology Equipment NAPTA, 2018 The Process Industries Challenge In the early 1990s, the process industries recognized that they would face a major staffing shortage because of the large number of baby boomer employees who would be retiring. Industry partnered with community colleges, technical colleges, and universities to remedy this situation. Together, they developed this series, which provides consistent curriculum content and exit competencies for process technology graduates to ensure a knowledgeable and competent staff that is ready to take over the demands of the field. The collaborators in education and industry also recognized that training for process technicians would benefit industry by reducing the costs associated with training and traditional hiring methods. This was how the NAPTA series for Process Technology was born. To achieve consistency of exit competencies among graduates from different schools and regions, the Gulf Coast Process Technology Alliance and the Center for the Advancement of Process Technology identified a core technical curriculum for the Associate Degree in Process Technology. This core consists of eight technical courses and is taught in alliance member institutions throughout the United States.
