omega psi phi escutcheon history: With Faith in God and Heart and Mind Maurice J. Hobson, Eddie R. Cole, Jim C. Harper, Derrick P. Alridge, 2025-05-01 When Edgar A. Love, Oscar J. Cooper, Frank Coleman, and Ernest Everett Just founded the historically Black fraternity Omega Psi Phi on November 17, 1911, at Howard University, they could not have known how great of an impact their organization would have on American life. Over the 110 years that followed, its members led colleges and universities; served in prominent military roles; made innumerable contributions to education, civic society, science, and medicine; and at least one campaigned for the US presidency. This book offers a comprehensive, authoritative history of the fraternity, emphasizing its vital role through multiple eras of the Black freedom struggle. The authors address both the individual work of its membership, which has included such figures as Carter G. Woodson, Bayard Rustin, Roy Wilkins, James L. Farmer Jr., Benjamin Elijah Mays, James Clyburn, Jesse Jackson, and Benjamin Crump, and the collective efforts of the fraternity's leadership to encourage its general membership to contribute to the struggle in concrete ways over the years. The result is a book that uniquely connects the 1910s with the present, showing the ongoing power of a Black fraternal organization to channel its members toward social reform.

omega psi phi escutcheon history: Lifting the Veil on the Lost Continent of Mu, the Motherland of Men Jack Churchward, 2011-08-01 A re-issue of the 1926 classic by James Churchward, The Lost Continent of Mu: Motherland of Men supplemented with fresh research and new material by the author's great-grandson. In the 1920s, James Churchward wrote a series of groundbreaking books about the lost continent of Lemuria which he called the land of Mu. The basic premises are these: • The Garden of Eden was not in Asia, but on a sunken continent in the Pacific Ocean. • The Biblical story of creation came not from the peoples of the Nile, but from this now submerged continent of Mu—the Motherland of Men. • Mu was an advanced civilization of 64 million inhabitants… He obtained the information by living with monks and translating unknown manuscripts. Over the years, his books have come to be considered occult classics. Now his great-grandson, Jack Churchward, has resurrected this valuable work and added his own research. Included: · The Lost Continent · The Land of Man’s Advent on Earth · Egyptian Sacred Volume, Book of the Dead · Symbols of Mu · North American’s Place Among the Ancient Civilizations · The Geological History of Mu · Ancient Religious Conceptions · Ancient Sacred Mysteries, Rites and Ceremonies

omega psi phi escutcheon history: Creating Carleton H. Blair Neatby, Don McEown, 2002-10-01 They analyse how Carleton University tried to adjust to the changing social values of the 1960s, describing how the administration tried to come to terms with financial constraint, the professors tried to shift their emphasis from teaching to research while fretting about job security, and the students challenged the traditional authority of university officials and professors in an effort to become fee-paying clients rather than pupils. Over and above these changes were attempts to come to grips with individual rights and the changing status of women. Creating Carleton is not only the story of how Carleton came to terms with these changes but a case study of the transformation of higher education in Ontario and in North America.

omega psi phi escutcheon history: The Dash Linda Ellis, 2012-04-16 When your life is over, everything you did will be represented by a single dash between two dates—what will that dash mean for the people you have known and loved? As Joseph Epstein once said, “We do not choose to be born. We do not choose our parents, or the country of our birth. We do not, most of us, choose to die. . . . But within this realm of choicelessness, we do choose how we live.” And that is what The Dash is all about. Beginning with an inspiring poem by Linda Ellis titled “The Dash,” renowned author Mac Anderson then applies his own signature commentary on how the poem motivates us to make certain choices in our lives—choices to ignore the calls of selfishness and instead reach out to others, using our God-given abilities to brighten their days and lighten their loads. After all, at the end of life, how we will be remembered—whether our dash represents a full, joyous life of seeking God’s glory, or merely the space between birth and death—will be entirely up to the people we’ve left behind, the lives we’ve changed.
omega psi phi escutcheon history: Paul's Use of the Old Testament in Romans 9.10-18 Brian J. Abasciano, 2011-04-21 Brian Abasciano continues his project examining the use of the Old Testament in Romans 9. Abasciano builds upon his forthcoming LNTS volume Paul's Use of the Old Testament in Romans 9.1-9, continuing the project begun in that volume and its intertextual methodology. This method incorporates into a thorough traditional exegesis a comprehensive analysis of Paul's use of Scripture against the background of interpretive traditions surrounding the texts alluded to, with great emphasis placed on analyzing the original contexts of Paul's citations and allusions. Such an intertextual exegesis is conducted in Romans 9:10-33 with an awareness of the broader unit of chapters 9-11 especially, and also the epistle as a whole. Conclusions for the meaning of these passages and their theological significance are drawn. Formerly the Journal for the Study of the New Testament Supplement, this is a book series that explores the many aspects of New Testament study including historical perspectives, social-scientific and literary theory, and theological, cultural and contextual approaches. The Early Christianity in Context series, a part of JSNTS , examines the birth and development of early Christianity up to the end of the third century CE. The series places Christianity in its social, cultural, political and economic context. European Seminar on Christian Origins and Journal for the Study of the Historical Jesus Supplement are also part of JSNTS .
