national deans list honor society: Soundbite Sara Harberson, 2021-04-06 Crack the code to college admissions and help students craft the ultimate statement of self-identity and get into their school of choice with this groundbreaking guide from America's College Counselor. On average, an admissions committee takes seconds to decide whether to admit a student. They must sum up the student in one sentence that will tell them if a student is going to be a good fit for their program. What is the best way to transform this admissions process from a stressful, pressure-cooker arms race into an empowering journey that paves the way to the best individual outcome? Written by a college admissions insider turned consultant, Soundbite guides parents and students through the admissions process from start to finish. Armed with her knowledge of how the system works, Sara Harberson shares tried-and-tested exercises that have helped thousands of students gain admission to their school of choice. The soundbite, her signature tool, presents an opportunity for students to take the reins to craft their ultimate statement of self-identity and formulate their own personal definition of what is best. With this soundbite in place as their foundation, students achieve maximum impact when they present themselves to colleges. In doing so, the tables are turned: the student's fate no longer rests on a soundbite composed by an admissions officer. Instead, the student employs their own soundbite to define themselves on their own terms. Soundbite shifts the way we talk about the admissions process—from Getting You In to Getting the Best You In. |

national deans list honor society: Academically Gifted African American Male College Students Fred A. Bonner II, 2010-01-22 The first-ever study of African American giftedness at the collegiate level, focusing on two extraordinary case studies. At a time when so many studies of African American students focus on the factors of failure, Academically Gifted African American Male College Students fills a conspicuous void in the research literature on post-secondary education by focusing on success. Like no other work before it, this remarkable study goes deep inside the experiences of academically gifted African American men who successfully navigate their way through rigorous college-level programs. At the heart of the unique and long overdue work are two real-life stories of African American male students: one at a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) and the other at a Traditionally White Institution (TWI). In presenting, comparing, and contrasting these two cases, the book identifies a number of personal characteristics and institutional approaches driving their notable achievements. The result is a guidebook both for gifted African American male students and for the institutions looking to strengthen their support for them—particularly in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. |

national deans list honor society: Hearing on Vocational Rehabilitation United States. Congress. House. Committee on Economic and Educational Opportunities. Subcommittee on Postsecondary Education, Training, and Life-long Learning, 1995 This document records the oral and written testimony of persons who testified at a hearing on how vocational rehabilitation for persons with disabilities, particularly severe disabilities, can be improved. Witnesses included directors of federal and state rehabilitation services departments, and officials of rehabilitation provider organizations and support groups for persons with disabilities. Some of the points made by the various witnesses were the following: (1) vocational rehabilitation should remain a separate entity and not be merged with general job training because the severely disabled may not be provided with the services they need; (2) the state of Kentucky is providing one-stop job training centers that serve the needs of all people, including those with severe disabilities; (3) some persons have been able to lead productive, professional lives and repay the investment in their vocational rehabilitation through that training; (4) some private groups can provide innovative programs of vocational rehabilitation and increase the choices of those who need the services; and (5) using block grants to states may not necessarily reduce expenses. Didymus, 2013-08-16 Unlike other commentaries that focus on debating if the gift of speaking in tongues exists or does not exist to the present day, Pentecostal Languages researches the history of tongues within Scripture. This work examines the origin of this phenomenal gift and its usage by prophets, kings, priests, angelic beings, songwriters, Jehovah, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit Himself. Since the Apostles and others made reference to the Septuagint (the first translation of the Hebrew Bible) in their quotations to establish the authority of Scripture, so also does author D. E. Didymus canvass this ancient work by comparing the Greek texts of the Septuagint and the New Testament. The Septuagint is translated from the most ancient and surviving Hebrew scrolls of the Torah. |
national deans list honor society: Chain Letter to America: the One Thing You Can Do to End Racism Jacques Fleury, 2019-10-10 What this book is about is raising conscious awareness to our collective humanity and respective contributions to our country, with added focus on our multiculturalism and fundamentally our shared...constitutional ideology: that we are all created equal... In the midst of political and racial divisions in America, I heard a republican congressman speaking to the media, he said: “With open eyes, open ears, open mind and you walk away with some understanding...” while honoring our first amendment right to freedom of expression...through open minded and open hearted conversations... If you take one thing away from reading this book, I hope it’s that our numerous races, ethnicities, beliefs and values manifested through comparative historical and contextual exploration can serve as a miscible advantage or a harmonious mixture when added together ... a reconciliatory nod to our past and a meditative extrapolation, interjection and celebration of our ...United States or ‘US’. Enjoy!” Praise for Jacques Fleury’s “Chain Letter to America...” “A powerful strike on the doors of Justice. The courageous author painted his vision, and suggested understanding and consciousness of our historic and present social reality. Before anybody from any medical society in the Roman Empire, a descendant of a slave performed the first major open heart surgery in America. There is an axiom: ‘Know the cause of the illness, and you will be able to apply the proper medicine.’ I know this: When we understand that we are the Human Race, there will be no place on Earth for Eris and Ares. Please, keep fueling the wings of Your Quill, and let the world know that it soars safely ~ blown by winds of reality, and aesthetical light. In reverent appreciation...” —Andre Emmanuel Bendavi ben-YEHU --Poet, Translator “Quite a tirade of prose and poetry of the state of the United States in the early 21st century. I thought we would be beyond all that, but it has come back to haunt us. I was enthralled with every word. Jacques Fleury’s scholarship and writing ability are far above the average. Really worth paying attention to...a metaphor for refugees from all kinds of calamities trying to find a safe place, a calm place in their life where they can rest and think of the life around them... Inspiring words about the harshness and beauty... all around us ... Fleury really said a load in this broadly sweeping exposé of modern life awakening. It’s good to see his superlative writing again... Kudos!” —Ronald W. Hull, Ed.D, Author of Hanging by a Thread “I grew up in a black, white, and yellow world... Differences in color and nationality are what makes life interesting. I go to a very diverse church because I know that’s what Heaven is going to be like... as for color, I am not blind but I am so grateful the Lord made us diverse as it’s a blessing and not a curse. In His eyes, all of us matter. I Praise Him for giving me such wisdom.” — Dr. John M. Domino Author of Reflections from the Great Depression and WWII “Polarization and violence in our country make increasingly urgent a greater understanding of our history. No one can confidently predict that things will return to ‘normal’, or that non-racist forces will seamlessly replace President Trump after his one or two terms in office. So what lessons and what inspiration from our past can we draw upon to help us in our present circumstance?” —Neil Calendar, Adjunct Professor of English, Roxbury Community College |
