long and short vowel worksheets 2nd grade: Curriculum-based Assessment Carroll J. Jones, 2008 Although curriculum-based assessment (CBA) has been on the horizon for a number of years, there has been a need for a practical, classroom-based approach for its implementation. This second edition is a major revision and update that offers practical and specific methods for developing and using CBAs in an educational setting. It gives educators a highly specific, step-by-step approach to building CBAs in the area of reading word recognition, reading comprehension, content reading, mathematics, and written expression. Each chapter offers detailed, easy-to-read, and easy-to-follow instructions for the assessment construction process. To further clarify the process, extensive examples are given in table format. A unique feature of the text is the manner in which the author illustrates the principles of CBA by providing a case study on one student which is referred to in each chapter. Its formative assessment approach gives the teacher additional, detailed information about studentsOCO performance, which, in turn, should guide the type of instruction designed and implemented, ultimately leading to higher performance on summative outcome measures. Addition-ally, detailed information is provided on subject area CBA construction, the creation and implementation of a district-wide CBA system for response-to-intervention, and how to use IDEA'S response-to-intervention in student evaluation. |

long and short vowel worksheets 2nd grade: Catholic Education Kimberly Hahn, Mary Hasson, 2012-12-11 Two experienced home schooling moms present a very thorough, balanced and practical guide to both the merits of home education, as well as the important ideas, resources and curriculums to home school. Hahn and Hasson cover all aspects - statistics supporting home schooling's excellence, the nitty-gritty of lesson plans, and hundreds of ways to keep the fun in (and boredom out) of learning. Most importantly, they offer compelling advice and inspiration for parents as they undertake their child's religious, moral and intellectual formation. This is a reliable guide for Catholic parents who want to stay close to the heart of the church in the schooling of their children. The authors demonstrate that home schooling is not a fringe movement on the Church's periphery, but it is squarely based on Catholic teachings drawn from Sacred Scripture, natural law, and the writings of saints and popes. Readers will find the right combination of secular and sacred, theoretical and practical. Whether you are looking for advice and encouragement, language resources, aids for teaching multiplication or phonics - or the Ten Commandments - this book is sure to be a very functional tool. |
long and short vowel worksheets 2nd grade: Restorative Literacies Deborah L. Wolter, 2021 Through eight compelling stories of restorative literacies, Wolter explores the complex relationships among cognition, metacognition, identity, behavior in schools, and literacies. Based on the principles of restorative justice, restorative literacies are designed to help educators repair harm, restore relationships, and expand the concept of literacy for some of our most disenfranchised and disengaged students. Restorative literacies are not just about growing readers and writers per se. They are about creating a community of care that involves students, teachers, administrators, and families so that all students experience racially, culturally, linguistically, and economically responsive instruction in multiple forms of literacies. Drawing on the authorÕs rich experiences cultivating a love of reading among her students and studying the practices of other educators, Restorative Literacies advances a provocative set of examples about centering the voice and stories of people in our quest to humanize and reimagine how we care for, about, and with others. Book Features: Presents a literacy model of restorative justice that includes participation from teachers, principals, administrators, and parents.Contains engaging narratives from elementary and secondary schools to illustrate concepts and strategies.Explores compassionate listening as a conscious process of assuring that all involved are fully heard, a skill that requires removing assumptions, judgement, and bias.Identifies practices that take a positive view of learners, as opposed to referring students to special education.Uses restoration as an alternative to pushout practices that are designed to control students and often prevent them from reaching their capacity. “Restorative Literacies offers a refreshing perspective on the power of story in cultivating emancipatory, restorative, and transformative contexts of learning, teaching, and development. . . . During these times of civil and civic unrest, this is the book we need in education.” —From the Foreword by H. Richard Milner IV, Cornelius Vanderbilt Chair of Education, Vanderbilt University |

long and short vowel worksheets 2nd grade: Taking on a Learning Disability Erin McCloskey, 2012-08-01 In the United States, approximately 2.5 million students are diagnosed as having a learning disability and the majority of those children are placed in special education because of an inability to read as expected. As a result of this diagnosis, these children may be placed in special education classrooms - classrooms that are separate from the ‘mainstream’ population. For children with learning disabilities, there is likely no place, other than in school, where a student’s inability to read as expected leads to this separation from his/her peers. Once school is over, these children play alongside the kids in their neighborhoods, participate in sports teams, and attend community activities. This book looks at the impact of being labeled as learning disabled and separated from peers in school through the eyes of Samson, a middle school student described both as learning disabled and a non-reader. This qualitative case study explores how Samson, his family, his teachers and this researcher make sense of special education and the complexities of learning to read as an adolescent. Throughout this book, there is a contrasting of the laws and procedures designed to guide special education, with the actual experiences of those impacted by these laws and procedures. Through the three years that Samson was in middle school, this book investigates his perspective on his classes, his interpretation of what it means to ‘be’ a student in special education, and the process by which he learns to read. How disability gets created, contested, and discussed is highlighted through the many contexts that allow disability to be recognized and to fade into the background. |
