how to skip relias training videos: Segregation by Experience Jennifer Keys Adair, Kiyomi Sánchez-Suzuki Colegrove, 2021-05-03 Early childhood can be a time of immense discovery, and educators have an opportunity to harness their students' fascination toward learning. And some teachers do, engaging with their students' ideas in ways that make learning collaborative. In Segregation by Experience, the authors set out to study how Latinx children exercise agency in their classrooms-children who don't often have access to these kinds of learning environments. The authors filmed a classroom in which an elementary school teacher, Ms. Bailey, made her students active participants. But when the authors showed videos of these black and brown children wandering around the classroom, being consulted for their ideas, observing and participating by their own initiative, reading snuggled up, shouting out ideas and stories without raising their hands, and influencing what they learned about, the response was surprising. Teachers admired Ms. Bailey but didn't think her practices would work with their black and brown students. Parents of color-many of them immigrants-liked many of the practices, but worried that they would endanger or compromise their children. Young children thought they were terrible, telling the authors that learning was about being quiet, still, and compliant. The children in the film were behaving badly. Segregation by Experience asks us to consider which children's unique voices are encouraged-and which are being disciplined through educational experience-- |

how to skip relias training videos: Beyond Health, Beyond Choice Paige Hall Smith, Bernice Hausman, Miriam Labbok, 2012-08-15 Current public health promotion of breastfeeding relies heavily on health messaging and individual behavior change. Women are told that “breast is best” but too little serious attention is given to addressing the many social, economic, and political factors that combine to limit women’s real choice to breastfeed beyond a few days or weeks. The result: women’s, infants’, and public health interests are undermined. Beyond Health, Beyond Choice examines how feminist perspectives can inform public health support for breastfeeding. Written by authors from diverse disciplines, perspectives, and countries, this collection of essays is arranged thematically and considers breastfeeding in relation to public health and health care; work and family; embodiment (specifically breastfeeding in public); economic and ethnic factors; guilt; violence; and commercialization. By examining women’s experiences and bringing feminist insights to bear on a public issue, the editors attempt to reframe the discussion to better inform public health approaches and political action. Doing so can help us recognize the value of breastfeeding for the public’s health and the important productive and reproductive contributions women make to the world. |

how to skip relias training videos: Dying in America Institute of Medicine, Committee on Approaching Death: Addressing Key End-of-Life Issues, 2015-03-19 For patients and their loved ones, no care decisions are more profound than those made near the end of life. Unfortunately, the experience of dying in the United States is often characterized by fragmented care, inadequate treatment of distressing symptoms, frequent transitions among care settings, and enormous care responsibilities for families. According to this report, the current health care system of rendering more intensive services than are necessary and desired by patients, and the lack of coordination among programs increases risks to patients and creates avoidable burdens on them and their families. Dying in America is a study of the current state of health care for persons of all ages who are nearing the end of life. Death is not a strictly medical event. Ideally, health care for those nearing the end of life harmonizes with social, psychological, and spiritual support. All people with advanced illnesses who may be approaching the end of life are entitled to access to high-quality, compassionate, evidence-based care, consistent with their wishes. Dying in America evaluates strategies to integrate care into a person- and family-centered, team-based framework, and makes recommendations to create a system that coordinates care and supports and respects the choices of patients and their families. The findings and recommendations of this report will address the needs of patients and their families and assist policy makers, clinicians and their educational and credentialing bodies, leaders of health care delivery and financing organizations, researchers, public and private funders, religious and community leaders, advocates of better care, journalists, and the public to provide the best care possible for people nearing the end of life. |

how to skip relias training videos: Preparing for Marriage Jim and Teresa Adams, 2015-05-12 Whether you're in a relationship now or want to be in one, you have come to the right place. We can help. The average couple spends $25,200 and over 250 hours on their wedding. That same couple spends less than $100 and two hours on their marriage. Don't be guilty of having a BIG wedding and a BAD marriage. Don't spend more time focused on the ceremony than the matrimony. The wedding, while a tremendous celebration is designed to last less than a day in most cultures, while the marriage is designed to last a lifetime. Dating, engaged, married (happily or unhappily), or remarried, if you follow this resource, it is guaranteed to help you make the right decision about marriage, prepare you for marriage, or strengthen the marriage you are already in. Teresa and I have been working on this manual all our married lives - not because we are really slow writers, but because this manual is the compilation of everything we have learned in our personal lives as a married couple for 30 years with four children - boy do we have some stories to tell - as well as our professional training. This book is a compilation of what we have seen work and not work in more than 20 years of practical application working with dating, engaged, married, and remarried couples. We developed this system out of necessity. We used another manual for more than a decade until it was literally no longer available. We looked for other resources, but never found one that fit our style and that really resonated with the couples we were coaching and counseling. Finally we decided to develop our own. We completed the first draft of this manual in 2010 and started using it in our weekend intensive sessions where Teresa and I meet with a couple for approximately 10 to 12 hours from Friday afternoon through Saturday (all day). As we used this tool, we have been constantly writing, rewriting, and adding as questions and issues arose that we did not initially include in this resource. We would often leave the counseling room that Friday, come home, and add or modify a section based on a situation we saw or anticipated seeing the next day in the intensive. Though we have never made this tool available to anyone other than the couples we have personally worked with, our clients have urged us to share this resource, as they were genuinely moved and changed by the information contained herein. What you hold in your hands is the result of this process. This product was not developed in a classroom, using a lot of relationship theory, but rather forged in the crucible of real-life situations and circumstances. This resource is just the beginning of your journey through Relationship Success University. how to skip relias training videos: Restoring Sanctuary Sandra L. Bloom, Brian Farragher, 2013-01-04 This is the third in a trilogy of books that chronicle the revolutionary changes in our mental health and human service delivery systems that have conspired to disempower staff and hinder client recovery. Creating Sanctuary documented the evolution of The Sanctuary Model therapeutic approach as an antidote to the personal and social trauma that clients bring to child welfare agencies, psychiatric hospitals, and residential facilities. Destroying Sanctuary details the destructive role of organizational trauma in the nation's systems of care. Restoring Sanctuary is a user-friendly manual for organizational change that addresses the deep roots of toxic stress and illustrates how to transform a dysfunctional human service system into a safe, secure, trauma-informed environment. At its heart, The Sanctuary Model represents an organizational value system that is committed to seven principles, which serve as anchors for decision making at all levels: non-violence, emotional intelligence, social learning, democracy, open communication, social responsibility, and growth and change. The Sanctuary Model is not a clinical intervention; rather, it is a method for creating an organizational culture that can more effectively provide a cohesive context within which healing from psychological and socially derived forms of traumatic experience can be addressed. Chapters are organized around the seven Sanctuary commitments, providing step-by-step, realistic guidance on creating and sustaining fundamental change. Restoring Sanctuary is a roadmap to recovery for our nation's systems of care. It explores the notion that organizations are living systems themselves and as such they manifest various degrees of health and dysfunction, analogous to those of individuals. Becoming a truly trauma-informed system therefore requires a process of reconstitution within helping organizations, top to bottom. A system cannot be truly trauma-informed unless the system can create and sustain a process of understanding itself. |
