He was a genius and a living encyclopedia of immunology: the author of the textbook Fundamental Immunology since its inception to the 7th edition in 2013; and the editor of the “Annual Review of Immunology” from its inaugural issue in 1983 until 2011. In his last book Immunity, he discussed the three laws of immunology: universality, tolerance and appropriateness. These capture the essence of Dr. Paul as well as the field.
